Concerts for Hurricane Katrina Relief Effort to Air Nationwide on XM Satellite RadioXM Satellite Radio |
XM Satellite Radio will air a series of live concerts and benefits organized by various organizations to raise money for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts:
* "Shelter from the Storm: A Concert for the Gulf Coast" will feature
performances by artists such as Sheryl Crow, Dixie Chicks, Alicia Keys,
Randy Newman, Paul Simon, and Neil Young. Celebrity participants include
Ellen DeGeneres, Jennifer Aniston, Cameron Diaz, Jack Nicholson, Chris
Rock, and Ray Romano. The concert, organized by the major broadcast
television networks, will be simulcast on Friday, September 9, from 8:00
pm to 9:00 pm ET on XM Radio's MSNBC channel (XM Channel 130) and CNBC
channel (XM Channel 127).
* BET's S.O.S. (Saving OurSelves) relief telethon, featuring Jay-Z, Diddy,
Alicia Keys, Wynton Marsalis, Master P, Stevie Wonder, and Chris Rock,
will air Friday, September 9, from 7:30 pm to 10 pm ET, on XM's urban
Top 40 channel The City (XM Channel 67).
* MTV's ReAct Now: Music & Relief Concert with Ludacris, Green Day, Usher,
Alicia Keys, Rob Thomas, the Dave Matthews Band, John Mellencamp, and
other artists will air Saturday, September 10, from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm
ET on XM's MTV Radio (XM Channel 155) and VH-1 Radio (XM Channel 156).
* Jazz at Lincoln Center's Higher Ground Hurricane Relief Benefit Concert
with Wynton Marsalis, Terence Blanchard, Elvis Costello, Diana Krall,
Abbey Lincoln, Bette Midler, James Taylor, McCoy Tyner, Cassandra
Wilson, and many others will air live from Jazz at Lincoln Center's
Frederick P. Rose Hall in New York City on September 17 from 8:00 pm to
11:00 p.m. ET on XM's Real Jazz (XM Channel 70).
XM is encouraging listeners on the air and on the web to contribute to the American Red Cross at http://www.redcross.org or 1-800-HELP-NOW. XM has launched Red Cross Radio (XM Channel 248) to provide information and messages for Red Cross staff and volunteers in the field during the relief effort. The XM Emergency Alert Channel (XM Channel 247) delivers updates about the disaster clean-up, road closures, school closings, and other information for Gulf Coast residents.
