XM Satellite Radio, IndyCar Series Announce Action-Packed Season of Racing - on the Track and On-Air

XM Satellite Radio |

XM Satellite Radio, the nation's leading satellite radio company with more than 6 million subscribers, will launch the second year of its multi-year broadcasting and marketing agreement with the IndyCar Series this weekend with the Toyota Indy 300 Presented by XM Satellite Radio at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Sunday, March 26. The race marks the 2006 season opener for the IndyCar Series.

In addition to the roar of high-performance 3-liter Honda racing engines, the weekend will also feature the high-energy sounds of Shinedown, performing free for race fans at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.

XM is the exclusive satellite radio network of the IRL. The entire 2006 IndyCar Series racing schedule, including the 90th Indianapolis 500 on May 28, can be heard on XM Channel 145, the IndyCar channel. Motorsports fans can cheer on their favorite drivers from pre-race programming through the checkered flag.

XM also returns as the primary sponsor of the Andretti Green Racing No. 7 Honda-powered Dallara driven by 2005 Firestone Indy 400 winner Bryan Herta. This is Herta's third season in the distinctive black and yellow XM IndyCar Series machine.

"Motorsports and music deliver a powerful adrenaline rush, and we are excited to bring the best of both to open-wheel race fans around the country," said Kevin Straley, vice president of talk programming, XM Satellite Radio. "Whether IndyCar Series and XM Satellite Radio fans are tuning in live at the track, at home, or on the road, we'll make sure that they hear all the action."

"When it comes to world-class talent, performance and technology, nothing compares to The IndyCar Series and XM Satellite Radio," said Mike Ringham, Indy Racing League Vice President for Marketing. "In addition to guaranteed great racing, we are also tremendously excited to introduce new generations of fans to the IndyCar Series, thanks to XM's free concert series."

On April 2, XM Satellite Radio will present the Grammy-nominated band Hoobastank following the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

XM is the leading provider of live sports in the satellite radio industry. XM delivers more than 5,000 live sporting events in 2006. In addition to IndyCar Series, XM airs Major League Baseball, NASCAR, National Hockey League, World Cup Soccer, and the college sports conferences ACC, Big East, Big Ten, and Pac-10. XM also offers live sports play-by-play and sports talk on ESPN Radio, as well as sports talk on ESPNews Radio, Fox Sports Radio, and Sporting News Radio. XM recently launched the sports radio show "60/20" with James Carville and Luke Russert, which airs Fridays 8 a.m.-9 a.m. ET on XM channel 200, with replays Fridays and Saturdays. XM also has exclusive sports radio shows hosted by Duke U. basketball's "Coach K," Mike Krzyzewski, NASCAR champions Dale Earnhardt, Jr., and Jimmie Johnson, baseball legend Cal Ripken, Jr., and other sports figures.
